So how is the telephone involved?
I use the phone to get in touch with customers, so I’m using it extensively. But you also need to conduct research on your customers, provide feedback and have a lot of contact with your project coordinator as well as other team members.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
We have flex workstations so, first I need to find a free workplace, then get the equipment which I need from my locker for the day. After that, it’s the usual of starting up my computer and getting some good tea. Then I see what is on the agenda for the day.
No, I start with tea, we have plenty of choice, so tea is always first.
And what does your team look like? Who do you work with?
In my team we have other Business Development Specialists, Project Coordinators and Sales.
Are you responsible for developing your team?
Together with the other Business Development Specialists, we work together to make each other better. Once every four weeks we have a so-called ‘intervision’, in which we give feedback on a conversation someone was struggling with. For example, other colleagues might have useful information or experiences that they can share from their own team. That is very valuable and gives you new insights.
What is the most unusual question you have been asked about your job?
Sometimes people ask if I am on the phone the whole day. I certainly make calls, but this is only one part of my job and a way of getting in touch. Ultimately, I ensure that our customers get as much information as possible about the market and where it is moving.
Do you think I should work for SP?
As a Business Development Specialist, you have to be curious and really enjoy finding answers. And you need to stay curious, be able to make connections and have an affinity with how business processes work.
